I believe that a silent film can still be a good quality film even if there is no sound, the storyline could have a good meaning and message to it, than it can still be a good film. For example, take the Charlie Chaplin film that we watched, it was a very entertaining movie and most people in the were laughing at parts, even though there was no sound, the over dramatic movements and ridiculous actions made by some of the characters in the film created an enjoyable environment for most of the viewers. This helps prove that just because a film doesn't have colour or sound, doesn't mean it is a bad movie. Silent films can still have the intriguing and enjoyable attributes of any of the movies out there today. In the future, I think that movies from today’s day and age will be viewed as the same way silent films are viewed now. People will think that the movies from today are bad quality because compared to what it will be like in the future, our film technology is not even close to being as advanced as it would be in about 20 years from now. In a few years, movies will likely be as if you were standing in the middle of everything that is happening in the film. As if you were right there in the scene. From silent films to the films we see out today, will all eventually considered boring once that type of technology goes out of style, but that doesn’t mean the film loses the good story line and message it had already possessed.

Music Video Analysis :)

The Video for Britney Spear's song, "Baby One More Time" does not present reality accurately. For example, at the very beginning when the bell rings, all students were able to pick up their backpacks all at the exact same time, the students all open their lockers at the same time once class is over, and there are many other examples of the students doing things in unison through-out the video. Another example is that a school that requires the students to wear uniforms, would not tolerate the females to wear their uniforms as shown in the video. They would not allow their stomachs to be shown as such. Also, when Britney begins to dance in the hall, all these other half-dressed teenage girls appear and automatically know how to do the exact same dance moves as Britney is at the exact same time as her. In reality, these attributes of the video would never happen in real life. I think that it is presented this way because to watch a video of what real life is like would just be boring. We would be used to it because its things we see every day. It look so much more fun when half-dressed young females dance to a choreographed dance routine.
This video follows the codes and conventions of most pop music videos because of the girls perfect hair and perfect body. Also, the well practiced in sync dance moves that are used by females dressed in revealing attire. The creeds and values of this video is that if you have a nice body and wear revealing clothes, everyone will like you and you will be popular. Basically, you can have any guy if you just dress like a tramp.
I think that this video would appeal to teenagers by the fact that it is appealing to teenage buys to watch a girl dance that way. Also, it appeals to girls because it makes them want to live a life like that. They like that body image and want it for themselves. Plus, it seems like the perfect high school life that 'every' girl would want. Lastly, the video stars a famous singer that most girls look up to as an idol.
Overall, I don't think that this is a good video. It doesn't have any sort of actual uniqueness to it. It is the stereotypical pop video that everyone is used to. There is no story line and no creativity used for this video.

Media Profile ^_^

Importance of Media to me:
I believe that media is quite important in my life, because almost everything we do now, whether it is school or anything today, it usually involves some form of media. Most school assignments involve using the internet or reading a book. Even for my job, we had to watch several videos and take notes before we actually got to do any hands-on sandwich making .

My Top Three Types of Media:

1# Music is probably the most important thing in my life. It helps calm me down if i am upset or angry about something. It also relaxes me after a stressful day. I can't go a single day with out listening to music. I have different types of music to listen to depending on my mood at that moment. I love relaxing with my earphones in listening to music while drawing in my sketch book. :]

#2 Social Networking is the second most important type of media to me. This is because I often after I have completed my homework I like to check in on my facebook homepage and get the update on what's new and going on in my friend/family's lives. I also like to use social networks to talk to relatives of mine that live in Holland. I rarely get to see them so it is nice to have a little chat with them on facebook every once in a while.

#3 Reading Novels is the third most important type of media to me because I enjoy reading a good book after a long stressful day. it feel so relaxing, and keeps me entertained when there is nothing else to do. I also like the types of thoughts that a book will sometimes trigger in my mind. It gets me thinking a lot.

My Thoughts on Popular Culture:

I like the newer technology that is coming out all the time. It is really good for communicating with my family in emergencies or even just making plans to spend time with my friends. It is also handy with school and homework assignments, or even just for fun. Some of the things can be really helpful to us. However, I believe that everything is being invented way too fast. I'm worried that one day soon, innovation will come to a complete stop and then what will happen? There will be no more "modern" popular culture. That's just my thought on popular culture of today.

Why Music Is My Life:

Music is the most important thing in my life. I really cant tell you what my favourite type of music is because I like almost every kind. Except for country music. I like to listen to music that has very meaningful lyrics, or lyrics that teach you to live and move on. When I'm looking for really meaningful lyrics i always turn to Secondhand Serenade. The lyrics to everyone of their songs have a meaningful and touching lyrics. However, when I am in a good mood and am feeling really energetic, I like to listen to Blood on the Dance Floor because their songs make me laugh. Especially at how ridiculous some of their lyrics are. Plus, They have awesome beats to their music that fit well with the lyrics. Lastly, The band that I like to listen to no matter what my mood is would be bring me the horizon. My favourite song t listen to by them is Don't Go. Although a lot of people don't really understand the lyrics, I find the Lyrics of that song very meaningful. You just have to listen closely to hear what the song is really about. This song has influenced my life because at one part of the song, it says " God forgive me for all my sins, God forgive me for everything." Being a christian, this part really hits home to me because every time it get to that part in the song, it makes me think of all the sins i have made and how Go can forgive me for them. But of course, in the song, his sins are a lot different than mine, but either way it is important for us to beg God for his forgiveness for the sins we have committed no matter how bad they were. From stealing the cookie in the cookie jar to Murdering someone. God will still be able to forgive you. That's why this song is so important to me.

Julius Caesar- Calpurnia's Dream

Caesar was standing there in a big room with people standing all around him. Every once in a while someone would walk up to him and have a small conversation while several people stood around him watching everything he did carefully. Suddenly, the people started crowding around Caesar. Calpurnia could no longer see him. She got worried and ran up to the crowd of people and tried pulling them away from Caesar, but nothing would work. The people were immovable. After a while the people eventually moved away from Caesar, and left the room. It was just Caesar and Calpurnia in the large room now. Caesar was lying on the floor motionless no marks were shown on his body. Calpurnia ran towards him and knelt down at his side. She tried talking to him, but he wouldn't respond. She carefully touch his arm. Instantly after she removed her hand from his arm, blood began to trickle down from the spot that she touched his arm. She began to cry at his side, wishing for her loving husband. After a a few minutes, she attempted at standing up, so she could run and get help, but she lost her balance and fell on Caesar's body. When she finally stood up, she looked down at him and noticed that he was now bleeding where she had landed on him. Calpurnia ran as fast as she could across the room towards the door. When she reached the door she tried to open it, but it was locked. She couldn't handle being in the room with her husband's bloody corpse. She suddenly fainted and fell to the ground. Then was when Calpurnia woke up from her night's sleep.

Julius Caesar- By William Shakespeare

Weather Report in Rome

"Good evening everyone this is John Kirk reporting for R news! Things in Rome are a little crazy tonight. We have quite a storm on our hands. Some people may think that the gods are angry, and I am one of those people. The wind is very strong, and the lightening crashes just keep coming one after the other. There is some wild things going on right now. One of them being a man walking around with his hand on fire, but he can't seem to feel any pain. Later on tonight the storm is expected to get worse, but luckily and hopefully tomorrow the storm is supposed to slow a ...... Oh my stars! Was that man on fire? There seems to be a man walking through the streets that is completely on fire! A lion is walking the streets growling at people, but not harming them, and this storm just seems to be getting worse every minute. What is happening in Rome? Could this be a sign from the gods? Or is this place we call Rome coming to an end? What ever it is something must be done! After the break we have Wanda on politics. "

Skinny-by Ibi Kaslik

About the Author

The author of the novel Skinny is Ibi Kaslik. Ibi Kaslik is not only a novelist, but be is also a freelance writer. Kaslik has written two books: Skinny and The Angels Riot. Ibi Kaslik was born August 20, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario.

Plotline

The novel Skinny is about two sisters named Giselle and Holly. Giselle is twenty-two years old and recovering from anorexia. She is the intelligent one of the two sisters, and was attending medical school until the anorexia came. She starts to turn her life back to the way it was before her illness, by volunteering at the hospital. She also starts having a close relationship with an old friend. Holly is a fourteen year old track star that had a close relationship with her dad before he passed away. She is visited by the ghost of their dead father.

Setting

Skinny takes place in in today's age. Most of the novel takes place at the the school Giselle was attending, or the mental hospital she was checked into. The atmosphere of the book is sorrowful. I find Skinny sorrowful because Giselle and Holly lost their father at such a young age, and also because of the struggles the family goes through with Giselle's sickness.

The Protagonist

The protagonist of Skinny is Giselle Vasco. I think that Giselle can be selfish because of the way she thinks that she should be treated like royalty at home just because of her eating disorder. She is also very smart. Giselle was a top medical student, and even when she was younger she would get the neighbor kids to bring her dead animals so that she could dissect them and do her own experiments with them.

My Review

I am very much enjoying Skinny so far. It is an excellent book, but it can be a little confusing at times. Skinny is not what I expected it to be...it's much more. On a scale of one to ten, ten being best, I give it an eight.
